"Health, wealth, beauty, and genius are not created; they are only manifested by the arrangement of your mind--that is, by your concept of yourself, and your concept of yourself is all that you accept and consent to as true" Neville Wishes Fulfilled;Mastering the Art of Manifesting, Wayne Dyer
Karen Casey, an Oprah Winfrey-endorsed author who’s written two dozen books on spirituality and self-help, will lead a daylong seminar on meditation and prayer March 17 in downtown Phoenix.
The event runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 424 N. Central Ave., an Arizona State University building near a light-rail stop. The day is a fundraiser for the Phoenix affiliate of the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence.
The affiliate’s CEO, Thelma Ross, said that among the council’s clients are women with no health insurance since Arizona cut off AHCCCS funding to childless adults.
“These women are in their 30s, 40s, 50s and 60s who never had children or whose children are grown,” Ross said. “They’re all in treatment, in recovery, working to get their lives straightened out.”
Some are homeless, some are diabetic and some have heart conditions, she said.
“We’re raising money to help them pay for medication.”
NCADD has a job-training program, but in the meantime, the clients have other serious needs, she said.
Casey’s daily-meditation book “Each Day a New Beginning” has sold more than 3 million copies.
“My books have been popular with people both in various 12-step programs and outside those programs,” Casey said last year before an appearance in Mesa.
By the same token, her discussions are broad enough to appeal to anyone interested in improving their lives, she said.
“It’s really about changing,” she said. “It’s about the human condition and making our lives better.”
Co-sponsors of the event, which is open to both men and women, are the Center for Applied Behavioral Health Policy at ASU and a bookstore, Recovery Rocks Mesa.
Cost is $40 plus an optional lunch for $10. Tickets are available at NCADD-PHX.org or 602-264-6214.
